REGION 3
Ryba
Marine Construction Co. of Cheboygan, Michigan was awarded
Best Small Business from Region 3 at an award ceremony
held in Lansing on May 4, 2004. The award was given by
the Michigan Small Business & Technology Center.
Ryba
Marine was not only chosen upon the basis of its success
in terms of sales, employment and business strategy, but
also upon the company's economic impact.
Fourteen
companies from across the state were honored. The companies
were selected from among 8,000 companies that the Michigan
Small Business & Technology Center provided with
confidential counseling and training during 2003.
Carl
Bourdelais, senior business consultant for the Michigan
Small Business & Technology Center at Alpena Community
College, nominated Ryba Marine after he was approached
by the company's management to review their business
strategy and marketing efforts. As a result of his advice
and recommendations, Ryba Marine's sales increased in
excess of $350,000.00.

MARINE CONSTRUCTION CO. AWARDED CIVIL WORKS CONSTRUCTION
CONTRACTOR OF THE YEAR BY US ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS
The
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently awarded Ryba
Marine Construction Co. the Civil Works Construction
Contractor Of The Year for 2002. Several companies
were nominated from the immense Great Lakes & Ohio
River Division for this award, but Ryba Marine was chosen
because of the outstanding work they did repairing
the East and West Pier at Ontonagon Harbor, Michigan.
Ryba
Marine was recognized for its outstanding quality
control, for completing the contract six months ahead
of schedule, timely submission of payrolls, safety
and many other favorable remarks. The U.S. Army Corps
of Engineers also commented, "All
employee's involved in the project were highly professional,
timely, and courteous in manner. All employee's
involved in the project were highly skilled, conscientious,
and safety minded, resulting in a high quality
project brought to completion ahead of schedule,
on budget."
The prestigious Civil Works Construction Contractor of the
Year is the highest award that a contractor can receive from
the US Army Corps of Engineers.
Ryba Marine was most appreciative of the recognition and
honor bestowed on its company and explained that the cooperation
on the part of the US Army Corps of Engineers Duluth Area
Office was exemplary. The degree of success would
have been difficult to achieve without the Corps of Engineers'
help. The project was destined to succeed when everyone
was willing to work together.
Ryba Marine strives for high quality work, completed safely,
on time and within budget and finds it very rewarding when
the customer recognizes these qualities too.

MARINE AWARDED REGION 2 CONTRACTOR OF THE YEAR BY MICHIGAN
TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE CENTERS
Ryba
Marine Construction Company of
Cheboygan recently received the Contractor of
the Year award for Region 2. They were chosen from over
175 clients throughout a 15 county area in northeast
Michigan. Established in 1983, Ryba Marine Construction
Company is experienced in pile driving, dredging, engineering
and design, hydrographic surveying, towing and barging,
concrete, steel fabrication and erection, stonework,
bridges, foundations, pipelines, breakwalls and seawalls,
dock building and diving. They employ an
average of 20 people, and say that their most
valuable resource is not the numerous tugs, load
line barges, cranes, loaders, etc. but their
experienced employees.
At
a recognition ceremony at the Cheboygan Chamber of
Commerce, Senator Walter North awarded a plaque of appreciation
to Tom Morrish, President of Ryba Marine Construction Company,
for their delivery of quality products and services
to the government market.
The
Northeast Michigan Consortium's Procurement Technical
Assistance Center has worked with Ryba Marine Construction
Company providing bid leads and technical assistance
for more than 15 years, and has assisted this company
in winning over $16 million in government contract
awards. A
HUBZone certified company; Ryba Marine Construction
was recently awarded a HUBZone set-aside contract for
over $1.1 million.
